Breakthrough Trends for the Fall

A breakthrough trend that is hitting runways and popular clothing stores is the military jacket. Whether paired with a pair of stylish leggings or a sleek pair of skinny jeans, this is a jacket that you can't go wrong with. It comes in a variety of materials, colors, and detailing, and looks great with a nice set of heels. They can be on the pricey side, but I found one at EXPRESS for a recession-friendly $79.50. This is as opposed to more pricey ones like Ralph Lauren's jacket for $398.00.


When I saw that the military jacket was back on the scene, I immediately wondered if the untimely death of Michael Jackson had something to do with the return of uniquely styled jacket. Jackson was known for his arrangement of military-style jackets, usually embroidered with gold buttons and sequined trimmings.

Here you see the former king of pop with Umbrella singer Rihanna both wearing military jackets. Of Course, MJ's picture was taken many years ago, while Rihanna's was taken this past summer. Michael Jackson's jacket is a signature (created by himself), classic look while Rihanna's is a more up-to-date, edgy look that fits her punk-rock style. I found it funny that they have similar hair styles as well.

However you want to wear it, the military jacket is suitable for all occasions. It can be dressed up with a pair of high boots and leggings, or dressed down with simply a pair of skinny jeans and flats. Whichever way you want to wear it, you're sure to turn heads where ever you go.
